Our story
Ménage à Mahj & Mississippi Mahj Club
Mahjong brings out the best in people, and brings out the best people
2022
Where it began
In 2022, Megan & Martine learned American Mahjong informally around a friend's table — before long, we had given our group text the cheeky name "Ménage à Mahj." Week after week we gathered around the table. Our friendship grew, and we realized we wanted to cast our net of connection wider, and use mahjong to connect friends and neighbors throughout our community.

Why we teach
In September 2023, we taught our very first class. Combining Megan’s occupational therapy background with Martine’s experience engaging accelerated learners, we created an intuitive, accessible curriculum. Those first eight students immediately asked us to teach their friends—filling our schedule and creating a months-long waitlist. We quickly realized that while we loved the intellectual strategy of the game, bringing people together was the real reward.

Beyond the pool house
As our community grew, so did the need for spaces to keep playing. Featured in Mississippi Magazine, we launched Mississippi Mahj Club parties to give our graduates consistent opportunities to meet, play, and build lasting relationships.
Today
Empowering our players
To support our growing player base, we introduced the Mahj Club Pass to help dedicated players secure event tickets before they sell out. We also launched Matchup—a dedicated platform empowering players to organize their own casual games and host their own tables between club events. What started as four friends' ritual has grown into Mississippi’s premier mahjong network—and we’d love to welcome you to the table.
